Life of the Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World     Nouwen Book Connection

Join us for conversations on one of Henri Nouwen's greatest books.  When asked by a Jewish friend to explain his faith in a simple way, Nouwen responded out of his conviction in God's unconditional love for everyone in Life of the Beloved, acclaimed by many as his greatest writing. Contact us for details if you are interested in joining the conversation.

The focus of their practice will be guided by Pema Chodron’s Start Where You Are. Their commitment to the CSG creates a spiritual community, both intimate and supportive for sustaining contemplative practices.

Second Saturdays,  July 12th  — SISTERS OF DIVERSITY
Women are invited to begin with an hour of silence for personal prayer. The morning continues as we share insights, life stories, and concerns.  This gives women an opportunity to know others uniquely and diversely based on a spiritual relationship. It also provides women an opportunity to be affirmed in their contemplative experience. This month the Sisters will reflect on "The Wound of Love."

Time: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Venue: Eremos, A Center of Contemplative Life, 6210 Adel Cove
Fee: $25.00
Lunch is potluck.

Third Wednesdays, July 16th -- Men's Contemplative Support Group
As men seek the face of God, it is particularly important to do that in the company of other men. It has been said that if men could only open to and be honest with other men, world peace would be imminent for in a space of openness and honesty there is no room for fear, violence, or aggression. The Men’s Contemplative Support Group offers the opportunity to be with others longing for communion from which they grow and nourish one another and become the peacemakers they are intended to be.  The theme for this month is Sacred Space.

Facilitator: Jean Springer
Time: 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Venue: Eremos, 6210 Adel Cove, 78749
Fee: free will offering

Last Tuesday,  Contemplative Knitting * Group -- July 29th

Knitting can be a meditative or contemplative act; the quiet repetition of a simple movement can be calming and centering. There will be a blend of quiet and stillness, knitting, sharing, and praying. This month’s reflection will be on Compassion:  Compassion is a foundation for sharing our aliveness and building a more humane world.  (Martin Lowenthal in Opening the Heart of Compassion)     Participants may engage in other needlecraft that promotes quiet and centering.
Call 531-9594 or email for information, directions, and access code.
Facilitators:  shared by Ellen Sullivan and Marie Angele
Venue:  Home of Nina Woolveton, 6204 Tasajillo Trail, 78739; code needed.
Time: 7:30 - 9 p.m.

Reflecting the Light:  Eremos’ Annual Gala & Silent Auction

October 16th in Mercury Hall

Kathleen Davis and Judy Rohde have graciously volunteered to co-chair this year’s gala. Manning Wolfe and Nancy Angel also graciously accepted the role of co-chairs for the Silent Auction. They will be asking us to use our “connections” to solicit tempting items, such as:
   - time share opportunities at or gift certificates to a resort area;
   - gift certificates to your favorite restaurant or service like a salon visit or massage;
 - tickets to fine arts events or membership at local venues like the Blanton or the Wildflower Center.
       We would love to have a few volunteers to support their efforts. Your commitment would be short-term—and the conversations are fun! You’ll spend time with some great folks and offer invaluable support to Eremos and our Mission.
Please email  or call 531-9594 for details.

Aging: A New Paradigm

Fall Conference Series

With the population of the Unites States becoming older, Eremos would like to offer people a new paradigm for engaging in those added years. As old structures and attitudes to aging are dissolving, this conference offers an opportunity to engage the questions of aging in creative and meaningful ways.

“We can stop ‘seeking better or more life’ and start living the one we have with a totally new sense of time and meaning,” proposes Dr. Jim Bentley, a conference facilitator.  Further details on the content, time, and venue will be posted here as they are finalized.
