A Gaze of Love
The small Wrens were dancing with the Live Oak branches creating a rhythm that caused my heart to fly. The cool morning air in the clear blue sky transported my soul in quiet harmony in its embrace.
A morning pause recognizing that each moment draws us into its height and depth of meaning.
Love transforms each encounter from a simple being present into becoming one with all that is. But we miss so many moments of love. We can become so focused on what needs to be done that we forget to simply pause and gaze. We can get so caught up in the action of life that we lose sight of the meaning with which we live our lives.
As I gaze out my window, I am truly held by all I see and so I am drawn to hold others also. I know the stress of facing a day filled with tasks too numerous for the hours that are available and so I hold people who feel such stress today. I watch the squirrels forage for food and imagine the men and women on our street corners who ‘will work for food’. I hear the sounds of angry voices in South Africa who want a living wage from all their toil in platinum and gold minds. My heart aches for the undocumented men and women who are hidden from our view lest they be deported again but yearn for a better life for themselves and their families.
And here I sit for one short moment gazing at God who is lovingly gazing at me. Contemplation is a mutual gaze of love. It opens us beyond ourselves to be embraced and to embrace the many expressions of God in each moment.
As you pause in your day, may you too be transported into the heart of God and see the face of God in your day.
