A New Hello…

 In Reflections

“If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.”
—Paulo Coehlo

Eremos is moving our office in the next two weeks. While we wait to see what our community needs for a physical location going forward, I’ll be hosting the Eremos office in my home.

At a time of year when focus is on new beginnings, it feels strange to attend to the details of ending one phase before beginning the next. The idea of “a new hello” awaiting me and Eremos as we make this change uplifts me when I focus too much on the letting go.

As you more fully settle into this new year, is there something or someone it is time to say goodbye to in order to make room for a new hello? As I write this, I am reminded of the wise words David Whyte shares in his poem Sweet Darkness:

“Anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.”

I like to think that even unplanned changes are doing the work of the Holy One to bring us more alive in ways we might not be able to understand in the moment. Most of us will likely experience a combination of both planned and unplanned changes as we continue on the adventure of 2023. May they all ultimately lead to joyful new hellos.

May you find the courage to say goodbye when necessary and hello to the new, even if unexpected.

Happiness

Step in Faith

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
—Martin Luther King Jr.

A Blessing

May the Holy One
Who never ceases to practice
The art of creating
Keep us ever
At the edge of
Our skills,
Our habits,
Our vision,
That we may never
Grow so content
In our creating
That we miss the God
Who is ever about
To do a new thing.
