Adapting to What is Here…

“The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings.” —Kakuzo Okakura

Hoping to celebrate a friend’s birthday yesterday at her favorite restaurant, our group needed to pivot and adapt to a new reality regarding our friend’s mobility. We decided to bring lunch to her.

Without the stress of trying to stick to the old plan, we could relax and celebrate her.

While my example is a small one, it feels like we are all being called to sharpen and hone our skills to adapt to an ever-changing reality. There is no going back to a world or even a day-to-day existence that we once took for granted.

“Adaptability is being able to adjust to any situation at any given time.” — John Wooden

Like the trees that learn to thrive with the wind, perhaps you too sense a call to adapt right now.  The “plan” for doing that will look different for each of us. What does strengthening your ability to adapt look like for you?

“The strongest will is the will that knows how to bend.” — Alice Duer Miller

For me, there is a desire to strengthen my connection to my inner compass or heart in order to  “hear” a clear signal when I need to bend with the wind or change direction. Also, I’m  decluttering a little each day, so I can “travel” lightly — whether physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually  — when necessary. Where and how in your life are you being called to adapt? Can you take a step today towards this new reality?

May you find the courage to adapt and change in  this ever-shifting world. And may you be led to new ways of thriving no matter what comes your way.
