Another Look…

 In Reflections

“Look closer and you’ll see something extraordinary, mystifying, something real and true. We have never been what we seemed.” —Zelda Fitzgerald

Decluttering a bit over the long weekend, I found somethings I had forgotten about. Gifted with another look, I celebrated these treasures as if seeing them for the first time.

Walking slowly in the early morning heat and humidity, I gave another, closer look to the trees I had sped by before.

Sometimes we miss vital information about someone or something the first time around. We miss seeing something beautiful, even extraordinary. Or, we dismiss something has undoable or too difficult. What is worth another look in your life right now?
“At first glance, it may appear too hard. Look again. Always look again.”
―Maryanne Radmacher

As your gaze or thoughts turn toward summer plans or looking forward, consider taking advantage of the slower pace the summer heat can bring to look again at someone or something too. Delightful gifts might already be underneath your nose, your feet, or your awareness!

May you see anew this week something or someone with gifts to share.

What You Can See…

“Look closer. You see, he lives in you.”

—Rafiki to Simba, Lion King

Second Sunrise

If I rise early
at this mountain
retreat center,

I can witness
the glorious moment
when the sun
crests the forested ridge
to the East

and bathes the valley
between us
with light—

a transformation
so sudden, profound,
and life-giving

that it can
truly be called
miraculous.

This alone
would be
more than enough,
this alone
could make my day.

Still, from my perch
on this steep slope,
I can amble downhill
for a few minutes
to a lower ridge

and experience
that miraculous moment
a second time
from a different
yet equally glorious
perspective.

I can be blessed
with a second sunrise—

just one of many
extraordinary gifts
of this mountain landscape.
