“Calligraphy is an art form…to express the very souls of words on paper.”
― Kaoru Akagawa
There are many ways to express the creativity inherent within us all and some – especially when approached contemplatively – become a form of meditation that nourishes our soul in ways beyond our imagining.
Connect with KariAnn Daughtry, joining us from her home in Chicago, as she invites us to explore the history, contemplative benefits, and beginning techniques of hand lettering.
Moving the pen on the paper becomes a moving meditation, a stress-relieving resource for equanimity and harmony of body and mind. In this workshop, we will explore the Uncial hand, which is famous from the Irish Book of Kells.
This is a beginning level class, open to all. No experience is necessary.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
A long-time meditator, KariAnn combined her love of art and writing into a calligraphy career spanning over three decades. She is also a painter and Process artist, certified as a Facilitator in Process Art. She intertwines contemplative and mindfulness practices with her art instruction. She values the meditative, intuitive, and flow-like experience and mindset that calligraphy makes accessible to all of us. She encourages students to cultivate the contemplative nature of this ancient art form, emphasizing the service of scribes as guardians in the continuum of culture.
