Move the Higher Ground

 In Reflections

“You cannot lift another soul until you are standing on higher ground than he is. You cannot light a fire in another soul unless it is burning in your own soul.”

— Harold B. Lee
The tension and divisiveness in our country hit us like a tsunami after the attack on the capitol. Even with the inauguration of President-Elect Biden tomorrow, we all need to move to higher ground to heal our country.

In the introduction of his new book, Ladder to the Light, Rt. Bishop Steven Charleston and citizen of the Choctaw Nation humbling spoke about what he had to offer the reader:

“I am a person at peace, at peace within myself, at peace with the world around me…” He goes on to speak of the ancient tradition of passing on our gifts: “The peace I feel is not something I am to keep, but give away. So, please receive the one true things of value I can give: this offering of peace for your life.”

I imagine Steven Charleston reaching out his hand to me and lifting me to the higher ground of peace where I can then be of better service to the the world. As each of us finds the inspiration we need to move to higher ground, we in turn are supporting others to open hearts and minds to do the same and help heal our country.

May you be guided to higher ground and may you realize the gift you give the world with each step you take.
