Power for Change…

 In Reflections

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” —Margaret J. Wheatley

Last week’s overt challenge to this country’s freedom of speech, which led to the yanking of Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show off the air, rattled me and many others. Over the weekend, I remembered the need to not give up, to call upon my courage, and to remain hopeful for the future despite the headlines.

So, the news that Kimmel’s show would return tonight on ABC felt like a huge win for everyone who protested, cancelled their subscription to Disney (owner of ABC network), or spoke out in defense of freedom of speech.

We may never know the real reasons for this latest decision by Disney, but if it inspires us to remember the power of people to bring about change, then the possibilities for making a positive difference are suddenly endless.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ― Margaret Mead

Sometimes we can get lost in our isolation at home or lack of social connections and assume we can’t make a difference on our own. Helen Keller, for example, said “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.”

But we don’t always have to physically be in a community in order to manifest change. Our individual actions from our homes build upon those of unknown like-hearted souls around the world doing the same thing. From a moment of silence envisioning peace to signing a petition, there are many ways to take back our power for bringing about the change we wish to see in this world.

What do you care about? Chances are there is a community of like-hearted souls waiting for you to dive in and make a difference in your own unique way.

May you remember your power to be part of the change you wish to see in the world. And may you exercise that power in divinely inspired ways.

Take good care.

Together We Can

“You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.”
—Mother Teresa

We Can Do It

“In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it.” ―Marianne Williamson

Conviction of the Heart

Note from Dianna: Recently reminded of the power of this 1990’s song to inspire me, I’ve been listening to it a lot lately. May the lyrics inspire you to act upon the conviction of your heart and to remember the songs that remind you of your power to influence positive change in the world.

Where are the dreams
That we once had?
This is the time
To bring them back

What were the promises
Caught on the tips of our tongues?
Do we forget or forgive?
There’s a whole other life
Waiting to be lived when
One day we’re brave enough
To talk with conviction of the heart

And down your streets
I’ve walked alone
As if my feet were not my own
Such is the path I chose
Doors I have opened and closed

I’m tired of living this life
Fooling myself, believing we’re right when
I’ve never given love
With any conviction of the heart

One with the earth
With the sky
One with everything in life
I believe we’ll survive
If we only try

How long must we all wait to change
This world bound in chains that we live in
To know what it is to forgive and be forgiven?

Too many years of taking now
Isn’t it time to stop somehow?
Air that’s too angry to breathe
Water our children can’t drink

You’ve heard it
Hundreds of times
You say you’re aware
Believe, and you care
But do you care enough
Where’s your conviction of the heart?

One with the Earth
With the sky
One with everything in life
I believe it will start
With conviction of the heart

With the Earth
With the sky
One with everything in life
I believe it will start
With conviction of the heart

One Earth
One sky
Only one world
Only one chance
For one life
When will live
(With conviction of the heart)

One child
One dream
And only one life

Give her one chance
For one life
When will we live

Only one Earth
Only one sky
Only one world
We’ve only got one chance
To live in one life

I believe it’s only gonna start
When we begin with
Some conviction of the heart
