Recalibrating for 2024…

 In Reflections

“We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise, we harden.” —Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

While pondering the start-stop-start feel of this new year, the word recalibrate popped into my mind. Cambridge Dictionary defines ‘recalibrate’ as “to change the way you do or think about something.”

Like watching a newborn foal wobbly on its feet, any change or recalibration can call for patience and pauses as we adjust to a new way of being.

Are you feeling a need for (or in the process of) recalibrating something now? You might not even want to change but feel the tug of transformation calling you.

Even with external messages to get off to a fast start and winter weather challenges, slowing down to ground in nature can ease the stress of change on the body, mind, and spirit. And don’t forget the power of your imagination to help you connect with the earth if weather, allergies, or health issues prevent you from physically spending time outdoors.

You might also rest and ponder over a cup of tea, or journal ideas about what needs recalibrating to support you in moving forward at a soul-nourishing pace. There is time enough. 2024 has only just begun.

May you be kind to yourself and those around you in the midst of recalibrating for 2024.

Letting Go

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”
―Lao Tzu

Rise Up

“If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence, we could rise up rooted, like trees.”
―Rainer Maria Rilke

What is the earth calling you to in 2024?

Courage to Try

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.”
―Mary Anne Radmacher

Child of Wonder

Excerpt (last two stanzas)

When, during the week hours of the night
you waken slowly into the new day
and the morning’s fog, like angel wings
hovers mysteriously above you
Take off your shoes!

Take off your shoes of distraction
Take off your shoes of isolation and blindness
Take off your shoes of hurry and worry
Take off anything that prevents you
from being a child of wonder.

—Macrina Wiederkehr, Seasons of Your Heart: Prayer & Reflections.

Which “shoes” are you being called to take off so you can embrace 2024 with wonder?
