Thriving Together…

 In Reflections

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
—African Proverb

As we begin to wrap up our focus on the many Facets of Joy in 2023, we turn our attention with anticipation to new beginnings in 2024.

Please join us as we explore how Thriving Together can be a powerful antidote to the stressful and often lonely times for many in our world today. Whether you live and work alone or are surrounded by people most days, we seek to support you in thriving in 2024 through the blessing of community.

Even as we prepare for our holiday celebrations and a new year, may we find time to pause often in thanksgiving for arriving at this moment in time to witness and experience at least one of the many facets of joy of the season.

May you be blessed by the gift of community today and notice all the ways your life is made better by both seen and unseen acts of service and kindness by your world family.

A Single Leaf

“A single leaf working alone provides no shade.”
―Chuck Page

Understanding This

“Understand this if you understand nothig: it is a powerful thing to be seen.”
―Akwaekke Emezi

Presence

When I say faith
I always feel the need
To add “in”
There I stop
I don’t know who or what
to name
I know many stories
Experience fear
And its cure
Anger
But just being
Has no words adequate
For presence

This morning I woke
At three
Gave up the effort
To sleep at four thirty
Sitting on the sofa
I became aware
Of the warmth
Of a dozing black cat
Just there

Faith is like that
Just there
I am afraid now
Of the next few days
I wonder if I can drive
To appointments
Read surgery information
Watch the video

All these thoughts
Anxiety wakefulness
Wait for sunrise
So I can walk carefully
With my stick
Among ancient live oaks
Where I can feel
Faith and remember
The ministry of presence
Learned from a small black cat

—Marilyn Zwicker

Note: Speaking of “Thriving Together,” I (Dianna) heard about this poem Marilyn wrote while chatting with her at the first informal Eremos Meetup this past Friday. Gathering in community led to each of us benefiting from her presence and creativity. I can’t wait to see what we all co-create and share together in 2024.
