Until One is Committed…
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. —W. H. Murray
While enjoying some down time over the holidays, I found myself listening to a few podcasts about 2026 and heard variations of a statement like this:
“This will be a fast-moving year filled with distractions, including opportunities to move into fear. So, it’s important to have a daily centering or grounding practice.”
Thinking about this I realized I never truly committed to a daily practice or two to ground, center, and support myself, even though I have trusted ways of coming back to center. Over the weekend, thoughts about the potentials for the year and commitment rushed back into my awareness when I saw the news that the U.S. had invaded Venezuela.
Whatever you may be feeling about this news, it is a reminder that shifts are happening rapidly around us and sometimes with dramatic impact on us and the lives of those we love. We may not be able to affect or challenge some of these changes, but we can commit to self care that helps us be grounded in trust that a higher way will be shown, filled with more compassion for those impacted by change, and open to inspiration to make a positive difference in some way.
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” ―Carl Jung
Do you have a centering or grounding practice you’re committed to? One that reminds you to “look into your own heart”? One minute of silence, one deep breath, and one bare foot planted on Mother Earth at a time can bring us back to an awareness of the wisdom available to us in any given moment.
And while you’re at it, why not commit to bringing a dream into reality this year too?
May you be inspired to commit to the practices, ideas, and relationships that help you move through 2026 grounded in awareness of the wisdom of the heart.

In Spite of Doubt…
“The relationship between commitment and doubt is by no means an antagonistic one. Commitment is healthiest when it’s not without doubt but in spite of doubt.”
― Rollo May
Epiphany Blessings!
On this day of epiphany in the Christian tradition, may you be guided by the light to blessed gifts from wise men and women.
And may you in turn be open to offering words of wisdom, hope, and compassion to anyone who needs them.
Note: Jan Richardson has made many of us aware of the tradition of epiphany also being acknowledged as Women’s Christmas. She offers wonderful resources to inspire your own retreat day. You can learn more and download free resources HERE.

What Do You Need to Commit To?
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!”
― William Hutchison Murray, The Scottish Himalayan Expedition
