Winds of Change…

 In Reflections

“The winds of change may unsettle sails, yet they also carry the promise of new horizons waiting to be explored.” ― Aloo Denish Obiero

From weather’s wild swings this spring to one shocking headline after another in the news, it’s no wonder so many yearn for stability. Yet, I found myself energized and feeling gratitude for the wind in my face, as I walked on a gorgeous cool and breezy Sunday morning.

This wind felt like a true breath of fresh air ushering in new possibilities and reawakening me to this world’s beauty.

Perhaps it was an inoculation of joy my soul gifted me that morning to help me breathe through the distressing news of more mass shootings around the country. Or, perhaps Spirit was offering an invitation to go beyond the reported news of the day to imagine the wind “blowing” my attention in the direction of what’s good and working in the world and in life.

Some days we are called to bend and flow with the wind and other days it serves as marvelous resistance training to help us walk forward with hope and confidence in spite of it. What are the winds of change inviting you to shift, resist, or flow with?

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand .

This traditional Irish Blessing felt perfect for today. May the hope, abundance, and peace found from the loving care this blessing offers stay with you through these times of change.

Be Like the Willow

“The willow is my favorite tree. I grew up near one. It’s the most flexible tree in nature and nothing can break it―no wind, no elements, it can bend and withstand anything.” ―P!nk

In Praise of Air (Excerpt)

Let us bless the invigoration
Of clean, fresh air.

The gentleness of air
That holds and slows the rain,
Lets it fall down.

The shyness of air
That never shows its face.

The force of air
In wall after wall
Of straining wind.

In the name of the air,
The breeze,
And the wind,
May our souls
Stay in rhythm
With eternal
Breath.

—John O’Donohue, last 5 stanzas of his blessing, In Praise of Air, featured in To Bless The Space Between Us.
